HANDICAP CORRECTIONS - Thursday, February 04, 2010
Last fall we updated our Handicapping system from the 2007 program to to the 2009 program. In the course of the installation a box was not checked about 3 levels into the program. The results of this was the indexes were calculated using Cimarron as the "home" course instead of the USGA's "standard" course which is necessary for our system to operate correctly. The system is now right and you will note that your index "dropped". I apologize for the error. George Pyle, Handicap Chm.

WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT FUNDRAISER RAFFLE/GOLF TOURNAMENT

The Sun City Grand Men’s 18 Hole Golf Club is holding its second annual raffle/golf tournament for the Wounded Warriors Project on March 15-20, 2010. Last year with just a raffle, we raised over $27,000 and this year with the addition of a golf tournament, we hope to do even better. Understanding that the economy is still difficult, we must remember that the economy is also difficult for our service men and women and their families. However, imagine this economic pressure compounded by having a loved one away from home fighting in a war! Only those who have a family member or friend fighting in Afghanistan or Iraq truly understand the meaning of the word sacrifice. The Wounded Warrior Project helps our severely injured soldiers from when they enter the field hospital until long after they return home. They not only help the soldiers, but also their families with the difficult transition back into mainstream life. The WWP is a nonprofit organization  (CFC#11425m 501(C)(3) Nonprofit Organization #20-2370934) with 80% of every dollar  going directly to our wounded warriors! The purpose of this letter is to ask you if you can help us with soliciting a donation/contribution for our raffle or golf tournament (i.e. hole sponsorships are $250). Any contribution would be greatly appreciated. These heroes and their families have been and are there for us, it is  now our time to be their for them. Below is the web site for more information about the WWP and a short video from the 2009 CMA Awards paying tribute to the Wounded Warrior Project. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

Gold Tees - Friday, December 18, 2009

Gold Tees - Friday, December 18, 2009
During the board meeting of Dec. 17, it was unanimously decided to allow anybody to play from the gold tees, regardless of handicap, age or any other restriction. It was felt that we would like our members to enjoy golf by choosing the tee best for them.
To elect to play from the gold tees, either contact Ed Foy (623-556-0355) or e-mail yellow_tees@cox.net. Once you elect to play gold tees, and it is entered into our handicap system, you will play the gold tees each week in the tournament season.
Your TOURNAMENT handicap will change, not your index.
Per USGA handicapping guidelines there are two adjustments to your TOURNAMENT handicap. The first is by calculating the tournament handicap based on the gold tee’s slope and rating.  The second adjustment takes the difference in Course Ratings from the different tees, rounds them to get to a whole adjustment number.

The USGA gives the option of raising the white tee guy’s or lowering the gold tee guy's COURSE handicap to get to an equitable handicap for all. Since there are fewer guys using the gold, we decided to lower the gold tee guys TOURNAMENT handicap.

The second adjustment LOWERING gold tee guys handicap would be:
GFS -  2  (Rating 68.9 White less 66.7 Gold = 2.2  rounded to 2)
GFN -  3  (69.0 less 66.4 = 2.6)
DS -   2   (69.1 less 66.7 = 2.4)
CIM -  2   (69.2 less 67.3 = 1.9)
